Three lessons from Facebook’s new couch skiing ad.

Remind people again why you’re so good for them.  They might know why but it never hurts to do a little self promotion and remind them again. In this case, Facebook reminds people that if you’ve got an event, even a small one, Facebook is a great way to get the word out quickly to your friends or customers.

Never forget that whatever the media, you’re always intruding on their time and space.  Given this, make sure that your message rewards people.  Ask yourself if your message is fun, truly informative, or dramatic. If it fails this basic criteria, it’s better to go back to the drawing board. Wieden & Kennedy was smart in choosing an event for this Facebook work that is small and doable yet unusual.  It makes us want to watch and see what happens.

Don’t try to do too much with any one piece of communications. Keep it simple and it will be more memorable. Bottom line, using Facebook enriches your life because it connects you to people who share your interests.
